TLDR: Quantum Technology Access Program Takes Use Cases Center Stage

Key Points:

  • Quantum Technology Access Program (QTAP) showcased real-life use cases of NISQ computers.
  • Companies demonstrated quantum applications in optimization and simulation for various sectors.

Some of the world’s best-known companies participated in the Quantum Technology Access Program (QTAP) showcase in London to present solutions to real-life problems using noisy, intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers. The event, part of the Innovate U.K.-funded Quantum Data Centre of the Future program, aimed to embed quantum technology within classical data centers to explore real-world applications.

Six companies showcased their experience with quantum computers and simulators for optimization problems, while another set of companies presented quantum simulation applications. Notably, Rolls-Royce showcased its quantum simulation work for testing the feasibility of nuclear generators on the moon. Using quantum machine learning models, Rolls-Royce aims to build autonomous nuclear reactors for remote locations.

The event highlighted the potential for quantum technology to transform sectors like energy, infrastructure, supply-chain management, and engineering. With a recent $57 million investment from the U.K. Government in quantum technology, the quantum ecosystem is poised for breakthroughs in various industries.
