Bell has demonstrated its High-Speed Vertical Takeoff and Landing (HSVTOL) technology in a live ground test. The test was part of the Speed and Runway Independent Technologies (SPRINT) programme by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The HSVTOL system allows rotorcraft to transition between rotor-propelled lift-off and jet-propelled horizontal high-speed flight. The technology enables an aircraft to cruise at high subsonic speeds of up to 518mph for a range of 230 miles, while carrying payloads of up to 2.3 tonnes.
